I was thinking of sprucing the lesson up a bit by adding a game on text message lingo at the end and thought of writing extracts of pop songs in text message speech and have the SS decode them. ... (i.e. to easy for them) any ideas on how to inject some competition in there? Thanks
Why not make that the warm up to a game where they have to convert lyrics into text message speech.

You could have a prize for the most text message speech (total) and a prize for the most used in a single sentence. Maybe even a creative prize for a group or student that made up their own.
