Thanks! So, to make sure I didn't make anything up in my response here, I asked my roommate how she would have answered this question. First, there is a country called Mongolia, and that is not where I am (I had a lot of friends back home be very impressed with me because they made this mistake). Back in the day, all of Mongolia was a part of China, but after WWII, it became independent (with help from the Russians?). However, there's a part that still belongs to China, and that is the province of Inner Mongolia, where Han Chinese are still very much the majority. So actually, it's not that this part of China is considered Mongolia, but this part of Mongolia is considered a part of China. Ta da! |
