what is ruedesheim known for? ruedesheim is known for its riesling wine and was named the gateway to the UNESCO world heritage site, the upper middle rhine valley. if you look at a map of germany and locate the rhine, you will see that ruedesheim lies directly at the knee (a bend) of the river. long time ago, they said that this area of the river is so shallow and rocky. so the heavy cargo ships couldnīt pass through. What they did was unload in ruedesheim, then the load was taken up the mountain by train and was transported with trucks to a town about 30 kms. away. and at that point, would then be loaded back to the ship. ruedesheim was also a stop-over of pilgrims going to spain.
it is a small town with a population of 10,000. but even if it is small, it has earned its popularity as a tourist attraction. there are so many sights to see here and variety of riesling wine to taste. |
