beside and besides

Ok I want to see some opinions regarding these two words. The reason is that I am always amazed at how many teachers don't actually know. Naturally you can now run to Google and look for the answer. This is ok, because for those that don't know it will be good training (smile)

also here is a twister. Which country is known for the phrase "its over by there" adding the "by"?

Ok so these are not really questions that perfectly fit the forum, but the answers will help others. And its fun!

That's a good one. I admit I used them wrong once or twice without being sure about their uses. But now that you've mentioned, I looked them up and I remembered them. Thanks a lot!
