lament

Is it correct to use lament as an intransitive verb?

-John laments for/about the fate of Emperor Napoleon.

Re: lament

lament is a transitive verb - ie followed by an object - and does not take a preposition. So the correct form of the sentence would be

John laments the fate of the Emperor Napoleon.
