match or game?

:confused:I'm making a list of sports and I'm wondering if there's a rule or an explanation about using " game" or "match"
For example : baseball ( game) and not match
Football ( match ) and not game .
Hockey ( match or game?)
rugby ? , cricket? tennis? ...
For tennis I've noticed that both are used
A game of tennis , a tennis match
Can you help?
thanks

Re: match or game?

Am no expert but I would say they are mostly interchangeable. I would go to a football game or match, but I would consider 'game' to be more familiar (the real fans would call it a game).

In tennis you have a game, set and match and they are different, as you advance. So in that case they shouldn't be confused.
