Default Words or expressions for leaving someone

I was at a meeting this morning and while we were leaving we just said : Bonne après-midi ( have a good afternoon ) which is very common in French when you leave someone or a group of people.
I was just wondering if it would be right in English to say " have a good afternoon" when I visited Texas and Louisiana most people said " Have a good day" but I've never heard "Have a good afternoon"
Are there any polite ways to leave people apart from: it was nice meeting you , when you haven't met the person before, or it was nice to see you when you know the person.
Thanks for your help

Have a good afternoon sounds fine, also Have a good evening if it's later in the day.
You could also say Hope to see you soon, and I've also heard See you again.

I've been racking my brain but other than that I can't come up with anything!

"Stay in touch", "keep smiling", and "have a good one" are phrases that I like for around campus.

You can also encourage someone to "drop by" and "don't be a stranger."
