hello,
how can I rephrase the sentence: "Bill reckoned that his success was due to incredible luck" using "put"?
Thanks

Re: rephrasing

Bill put his success down to incredible luck.

The expression to put X down to Y means to consider that Y happened because of X. Some other (authentic)examples :

a) Even in the western Ukraine, far away from Chernobyl, headaches and sleeping troubles are put down to the disaster.

b) Likes and dislikes cannot be put down to pure genetic inheritance alone.

c) Much of the credit for Mansell's success has been put down to the sophistication and reliability of the Didcot developed Williams car.
