Default Take a train or catch a train?

I usually use "catch "a train instead of "take " a train . Is it more familiar? I've often heard my English friends use " catch"
What's the difference?
Thanks for your help.

I would catch a train or a bus, but take the underground. I can't tell you why!

Both are very close in meaning, but "catch" emphasizes the process of getting to the train, and "take" emphasizes being on the train.

To me 'catch' implies I'm running late and have to hurry to catch the train.
otherwise I'd plan on taking the train (or even 'get' a train, although I'm sure that's not proper usage)
