Do you use songs and chants to teach ESL

Just wondering how many teachers out there are using songs to teach children ESL. It would be interesting to hear of some of your experiences.
Thankshttp://eslhq.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

that link will take to to a video site that has an 80s Japanese video. It is Englicise Video. They are exercising and teaching english by chanting, but the phrases they are teaching are hillarious. If you got 5 minutes to spare check it out.

Seriously thought, those phrases stick in your head. I don't do any chanting but it seems like it would work.

Take anything you want!
Take anything you want!
Take anything you want!
Take anything you want!

Spare me my life!
Spare me my life!
Spare me my life!

Just want to warn everyone, videos posted of this nature will result in an instant banning... :p just kidding

what's with the obscure robbery phrases though? is that before you take a trip to nyc or something?

Although, these videos are not necessarily what and how I plan to do it, i'm going to try something similar with my students. I have some K,1,2 kids that I do different TPR activities with and I might just try to get them to chant to a beat with some crazy aerobics.

'Can I go to the bathroom.'
'Can I go to the bathroom.'
'Can I go to the bathroom.'

'I wanna play bingo.'
'I wanna play bingo.'
'I wanna play bingo.'

'I don't wanna. I don't wanna.'
'I don't wanna. I don't wanna.'
'I don't wanna. I don't wanna.'

All I need now is a funky track to Englicise to.

Re: Do you use songs and chants to teach ESL

I was thinking of some repeating beat that i can just use over and over again. I thought I could just get one from a keyboard beat track or something. As I haven't done it yet, I really don't know, but I thought it would be good to use the same track over and over again.

I think if you had a couple selections of those for teachers to chant to, that would be great.

All the way to kingergarten my brain kept a-banging:
"It's your fault" (clap, clap) "this happened".
If only I could come up with someone to blame.
If my kids were toddlers, I'd re-lyric the lines to stuff like:
"How can I help" (clap, clap) "you, Mom?"
"How can I help" (clap, clap) "you, Mom?"
"How can I help" (clap, clap) "you, Mom?"
and drill it home.
