Rhyming practice!

I don't know how I stumbled into this but it really worked out well once we got started.

Rhyming, other then being really hard to spell, is an important skill to practice. It teaches students about pronunciation and helps them understand about the different commen sounds of different words in English.

To play the game, write the lyrics for that old camp song some of you are sure to remember,

- Down by the bay, down by the bay
- Where the watermelons grow, where the watermelons grow
- Back to my home, back to my home
- I dare not go, I dare not go
- For if I do, for if I do
- My mother would say.......
- Did you ever see a *insert noun* with a / on a / in a / at a *insert adjective + rhyming noun*
i.e. "Did you ever see a whale with a polka-dot tail?"
- Down by the bay!

If you know the song, try it out. I can't tell you the tune so if you dont recognize it I can't really help.

Anyways, just get the students to sing the main part all together, then single out students to come up with the rhyme.
