Running Dictation

I used this for all my students 4-12 years old and a colleague used it with her adults so it is truly adaptable.

Divide your class into pairs and give them paper & pencil.
Find a piece of suitable text and pin it to the wall. As my classes invariably cheated I got different texts for each pair.
The idea is that one of the pair will run the text on the wall, read it, remember as much as possible then run back to dictate to their partner. After a few trips to the wall they can swap roles.
The winners are the ones who have rewritten the text perfectly on their paper.
Depending on the text you can vary the level. I did this with my top level kindergarten class, using only a couple of sentences, but it worked just as well for them as they were remembering single letter and practising the alphabet.
