Will, Might, Wont classroom activites

This was one of my most successful lessons this year. I played it with 14 and 15 year olds.

First go over the meaning of will, might, and wont. I wrote a chart on the board.

Then I explained the activity.
1. I wrote WILL, MIGHT, and WONT on sheets of paper and placed them around the room.
2. I wrote questions on the board like "will you be famous" and students moved to either WILL, MIGHT, or WONT group
3. I had each group repeat "I will be famous" or "I might be famous." I kept score on the board of how many were in each group
4. I wrote about 10 questions using different subjects like "Will Carlos be president?" and "Will Maria ride a motorcycle?"
5. Then after we completed all the questions the students sat down and wrote in thier notebook "The future of our class" They formed sentances based on which group had the most people, such as "Carlos might be president" and "Maria wont ride a motorcycle"

This took up a 45 min class, but you can strech it with more or less questions.

One other tip is to write the questions one at a time as they are playing, it builds excitement.

good luck

Hi Kyle, great idea, particularly for those conditional/modal verbs.

I think this could be focused around a character in a text you are reading or working with.

Cheers :)

Wow, very creative. I'll try that tonight with my adult ESL class and share any variations.
