programming languages

Hello, I caught onto your podcast at ESL teacher talk and really enjoyed listening to the conversation.

When I heard about how you fell in "love" with programming webpages and homework I figured I would ask which ones you love and why.

I have some books on HTML, but wondered which language you are using for the forms and to keep track of scores etc.

can you elucidate ?

thanks much in advance

Hi,

I started programming using PHP and MySQL. PHP is the programming language and MySQL is the database. It's probably the most common duo you can find. Almost every web host has these two available.

PHP is also very easy to learn. I started by following some online tutorials and posting in forums. Then I bought some books. If I were starting from scratch again, I'd go over to Lynda.com and watch the GREAT tutorials to help you get started. I am learning Ruby (a programming language) on Rails (a web application framework) from Lynda and it was way easier to learn that way instead of reading books or putting together bits of information from here and there.

I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Later
eric

Flash is useful for quizzes and such. My roadtogrammar.com site is done in flash. And you can get a one month full trial of flash from adobe.com

Another great PHP/MySQL site for beginners is Tizag Tutorials. When I was learning PHP/MySQL I found that site very helpful, along with Linda.com
