Study Pens!

Suddenly Leveled Up?

Did your eleven year old who usually mispells banana “damama” just come up with a phrase like “keep in mind” or “take it easy”? You might want to check his pencil case. No, not for a high-tech, wireless connection to the outside world. Now there is a cheap new study aid that even an elementary student can afford. Welcome the scroll pen! This cartoony little plastic writing device looks like any other pen, with dancHoo bunnies, kitties and flowers all over it, except that this one has a special feature: pull a thin metal strip and out scrolls an A-Z dictionary of 300+ English expressions translated into Korean.

For 1000 won you can really dazzle your teacher and your classmates with this little gadget. It comes either in caramel or coffee colour, and there is one for English and one for Chinese characters. I bought both, ‘cause you never know when you’ll get the study vibe.

Check out your nearest stationery store ASAP. ;)

It would be nice to stick some grammar rules in there for...ehemm...the students...

Yeah, it would ;)

Today another beginner level student amazed me during break time.

Student: "Teacher! John, Sally, make fun of."
Me: "What?"
Student: "John say Sally-Jelly".
Me: (hmmm, that is making fun of, so qualifies as correct usage)
Well, tell John that's not funny!

I never checked his pencil case, but I'm quite convinced that to use a 3 word verb like "make fun of" he needed some kind of supplementary help. If there were a study pen for the Let's Go books I'm teaching, I'd get 'em.

Update on Study Pens

I'm taking a few months off from teaching to study Korean for awhile. I even got myself a student visa...

Well, during dictation last week I caught myself in complete role reversal: My Korean teacher caught me cheating in class!

Yep, I knew my pen-sized dictionary had the spelling I was looking for, so... :o
