No, oh my god! I didn't think the "white" referred to drugs! I was thinking some geographical feature, but I didn't know exactly. Your city sounds very pretty.
I'm from a very small town in Canada called Penetanguishene. The word is from the Algonquin (Canadian Indian) language and it means "white rolling sands", but since childhood I've thought the beaches were more yellow, actually. Maybe at the time of naming they were white.
I came to Korea right after graduating university and have taken a few big breaks between contracts, but suddenly I turned 30 years old and realized that I taught English here for the majority of my 20s. I was fairly surprised. But it's been fun and (is there a better word for "challenging"?, everyone uses "challenging", though it's true). I'm getting married this summer, back in Canada. I haven't been home it 2 years!
I'd like to hear more about Arequipa. Are the volcanoes still active? What kinds of things do people do in their free time? What is teaching like?
