Exclamation Hello from Korea

Hello all. Well I would like to first say wow to this website. I found this website by accident whilst surfing for topics and ideas for my English Class. It looks great and seems a good place to exchange ideas.

Well, I'm 28 tommorrow and I live in South Korea where I teach English to some kids as well as some adults. I'm also married to a South Korean and love learning languages and travelling. I am just about getting my head round Korean now and can read/write/speak/listen Korean to a certain extent. Plus, I am a competent French speaker.

I have been in Korea for about a year now and don't plan to return to the UK anytime soon, 'cos it's going down the drain in that place. Just would like to say hello to those that work in Korea or who have taught in Korea and for those fellow teachers who love teaching their students. I would also like to ask a question about Korea because this is my first Hagwon (Institute) but shall ask in a different thread.

Kind regards,

Martin

Welcome aboard Martin!

I asked in another thread about where in Korea are you living so you can answer here to keep all the focus on you

Tell us more about your job. You are teaching in a hagwon and teaching kids and adults? Is that kids of all ages? Which do you prefer now - adults or kids?

I teach both myself and mostly like the adults but the kids can be very enjoyable somedays!

Oh ya and happy birthday!

Hiya guys

I currently live and work in Gyeongi do in a place called Pyeontaek (평텍) and yeah I teach some kids which can be rewarding when they learn something new. I also help my Korean wife (겨퍼 - a gyopo) with her private teaching lessons in the evening with adults.

The adults can be quite stressful if they have a slower acquisition rate compared to kids who just seem to pick up a language if they try. However, it is relieving when adults start to use their English during their day to day activity.

I had a great birthday party in Seoul last night. I went out with my brother-in-law and my brother who is visiting Korea. Anyway, my wife let off the hook and I went out to a nice jazz club where I listened to some musicians. After that, it was bars and clubs for beer and soju. At 7am decided to head back home and was too drunk to stay awake. So got to my place at 8am and slept till 4pm.

This was the first time I had been out in Seoul, since 2003, and the best night I have had in Seoul. Now I gotta get rid of this hangover. Anyone know a good hangover cure?

Ask your wife. There is some hangover cures famous in Korea such as bean sprouts and pepper soup. Damn spicy but it cures that head!
