Thumbs up search function

Hey, this is a great site and I have already succesfully played some of the games on it.

There is such a wealth of information on here I wondered if it was possible to have a search function. Perhaps when people started a thread or posted a reply there could be a keywords field to fill in that would come up in a search.

Hi Jaine,

There is a search function. In fact, there are many.

If you click the link at the top of every page, you will see where you can search many types of materials. (See screenshot below)

Also, if you click 'Advanced Search' or go here http://www.eslhq.com/forums/search.php you can do highly customized searches.

Let me know if you have any difficulties do these things.

Eric

Hi Eric,

Maybe you could make it more obvious? I've been around here for a while but had never noticed it.

Also, I've just tried it out and it didn't work very well. I typed "will" into the Forums search because I know that I've done a number of previous posts on future forms - including those with "will" in the title. But nothing came up.

As the forum questions seem to repeat themselves quite a lot, it would probably be useful - as well as making it easier to find worksheets and so on.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your input. I didn't know it was so hard to see. I will try to make it more obvious.

Regarding 'will', 'will' is a stopword meaning that it so common like articles, pronouns & prepositions that it is unsearchable. Unfortunately, that doesn't help us on an ESL website but it would be really tough to fix.

What do you mean about making it easier to find worksheets?

Thanks for your feedback.

Eric

Hi Eric,
Yes - I take your point about "will" - it should have occurred to me. Re the worksheets - I meant much the same - ie that if I wanted a worksheet on "will", then I could type that in and find all the ones which were available. At the moment they're organised by worksheet type rather than content so that if you haven't noticed the search function and want something on a particular structural, functional or lexical area you have to plough through the all the categories and pages to find it. But I just tried with "suggestions" and "present continuous" and it works fine. So just a matter of noticing that it's there ...

Great!

Well, you are not the only one who didn't see it so it needs to be made more obvious. Thanks for your feedback.
