British vs. American ESL English?

While the title sounds like a competition, I do not mean this thread to be. I was curious to see what type of ESL English is taught where you work?

I know the English taught in Japan's public schools is American English.

What about other places?

I thought most of Asia was using American English texts and Europe was predominently using British English text.

Are there any Oz English texts?

Well in my school it's really different since my collegues are from several countries and everyone teaches the English they know, as for me I teach American English since I'm from L.A.

There are two types of English, good English and bad English. Students should know both if I am using a British English book I tell the students also known as ------------ in American and the opposite if I am using an American English book.

Re: British vs. American ESL English?

Our school policy is that we teach 'our' English. Basically, I say "This is how I talk." Since I'm American, that means American English. The little bit of British vocabulary I know I include, if my students are interested in it.

The funny thing is that I'll often get in mock arguments with the students about which is better. . . and I think that anything that animates the student to speak ("Then it's your job to bring the British vocabulary") is an improvement.
