Competitive games for HUGE classes! HELP! Hey guys! I'm currently teaching English in China to College students. I have been doing so for over 3 months. I have kind of worked out what type of games they like, however, when I search online for a competitive styled game, I can never use them as my classes have 50+ students! They like games which involve 2 huge teams and involve the black board in some way. (e.g TYPHOON.) But I suppose any type of game which can be adapted to a stuffed classroom would be great help. Any suggestions would be of great help to a teacher in need! |
Re: Competitive games for HUGE classes! HELP! Hello, I have taught large classes. What works very well is to find a game that can be played with 3 or 4 teams. The teams take turns. This way, the teams are smaller. I'm concerned that every student participates. Marie |
Re: Competitive games for HUGE classes! HELP! Hello again, What level of ESL is your class? One concern is: if the teams are very large, students spend a lot of time talking in their native language(s) as they wait for turns. I try to minimize wait time for this reason. I like to break the class up into groups of 4, and each group of 4 plays the same game independently of all the other groups. This works very well. But you will need enough materials for all the groups. Many games can be adapted. Look for ways to change games to fit your needs. What websites have you tried, to find games? Marie |
Re: Competitive games for HUGE classes! HELP! If you are working on vocabulary you can play competitive pictionary on the board. One person from each group goes to the board. Draw a line down the center of the board. You give each person a vocabulary word. Their team will guess the word. One point is given for each correct guess. A new student draws for each word. The first group to 10 wins. Don't try this with kids though. They get a little wild! |
Re: Competitive games for HUGE classes! HELP! I play pictionary with all of my students ( kids too) and they love it, not sure whats wrong with a little wild now and again!!:hippie: |
