English for Sex Workers

I'm involved in a project that teaches English to Sex Workers. I'm trying to find as much information as possible about this area. I guess this is not that an established ESP area! But if anyone knows any information - be it at a theoretical level or more practical level - please let me know. I'm especially interested to find practical teaching materials in this area and also find out other groups that are doing similar projects to learn from them. Thanks.

Why do you need to tailor your lesson to their profession?

Hi there,
I don't do an awful lot of ESP courses but I suppose I'd teach them the basic grammatical structures, then add the relevant vocabulary. Whether it be a course for doctors, lawyers, footballers or whatever, they all use pretty much the same structures (present and past simple and continuous, question forms, modals, imperatives etc) - just concentrate a bit more on the ones that they appear to use the most. As for the skills, I don't imagine writing would be used very much, nor reading. I guess you'd be focusing on speaking.

As for practical materials, you could make up some flashcards but cutting out pictures from adult magazines, take in a video or whatever. Personally I wouldn't feel particularly comfortable, but if you \ your teacher is happy to run with it then the ideas are limitless, as with any ESP course. Role plays, board games, physical games, crosswords, TPR, chants.

Let us know how it goes.
