Looking for a Task-based teaching Course book

Hi ESL Teachers,

I am using Task based teaching in my Intermediate middle school

class, and beginner level Adult class.

However, it is time consuming to make task based lessons.

I would like to ask help if anyone here knows a course book that

is based on Task-based teaching.

I have looked over the books in amazon.com but most of them

are teacher's reference book.

I think new interchange and side by side are based more on

notional-functional approach and drilling, so I'm ruling out these

books.

I'd greatly appreciate your suggestions

Thank you so much.

Re: Looking for a Task-based teaching Course book

I teach Beginning High ESL to adults in California. Adult schools out here receive government funding based on how students do on the CASAS tests. So some of our ESL textbooks are aligned with CASAS standards. Side by Side and Stand Out are very popular here. Both are aligned with CASAS standards. I've used both texts. Students really like Side by Side. For lessons on health, I prefer Stand Out. Stand Out also has a good variety of activities built into the book. Some of my colleagues like English in Action, which I have not used.

You might try looking at some websites of publishers. Here's a webpage from Heinle:

Hello there,

I'd like to ask again if anybody knows about any task-based coursebooks?

Many thanks

I do not think Cutting Edge is task-based. It is, at most, what Ellis (2003) calls TASK-SUPPORTED. It is clearly organized around grammar points. It presents a task at the end of each unit

Hi,

This book is for business English, but it is very task-based. It could give some ideas: ESL for Teachers: Business English for the Classroom - Kindle edition by Alycia Carey Jones. Reference Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Hi,

I'm looking for the same thing. I've found Widgets, by Pearson,, which says it is task based, but haven't looked at it yet. Widgets - A task-based course in practical English
