Shapes vs. Age Correlation

I teach in Japan. One thing that dawned on me today was the shapes of cartoon characters. If it geared toward very young children, the shapes will be more rounded. However, teenage cartoons use more 'cut' features.

I was just wondering if there have been studies on the shape of an object and how it links to learning.
