Default Teaching English Online

Hello everyone,

I'm putting my initial thoughts together for a book one how to teach English online.

If you could answer the following questions, I would really appreciate it.

If you already teach online:

- What is it like to teach online and what are some of the biggest challenges you face?

If you don't teach online but have considered doing it:

- What information would you need to know to get started?

I really appreciate any feedback that I get, and if you would prefer, you can always PM me.

I'm also happy to answer any questions you may have about teaching this way.

Jack.

Hi Jack,

I haven't ever taught online, but I've toyed with the idea once in a while. Here are some questions that come to mind:

- Are there any education courses or programs that cover how to teach ESL online, and are these courses worthwhile?

- Is there any kind of professional association for online educators (ESL-specific or not) with resources for independent teachers?

- What are all the software options for teaching?

- What software works best for teaching one-on-one / for teaching groups?

- How much money would I have to invest in the essentials for setting up, including software and equipment? (a good headset, for example)

- How do you recruit students?

I'd be interested to read your book or article once it's available Keep us posted!

Thanks for getting back to me Little Sage.

I have just published a new post based on some of your questions and questions from others. It's quite a long one, but it covers a lot of ground.

Here's the link:

For me, one of the biggest challenges was getting a stable enough internet connection to not keep losing the skype call. Here in Cambodia, the internet is getting better but it can be infuriatingly unstable and slow at times and makes it really hard to schedule lesson and keep to it!
