Re: Would you apologize to your students?

Absolutely.

Perhaps the student who is perceived to be his favorite can speak, after class, with him and mention the need for more student conversation. "We learn best by doing", the student might note. "Can you find some ways to push us to speak more in class? That's what we really need."

If the teacher is really such an egotist, you might need to make him think that this is really his idea. The student could even "confide" that although some weaker students really like listening to him, they "need to be pushed" into more active learning.

That should work. Sometimes, as the old proverb goes, "you get more with honey than vinegar."

Finally, you owe to yourself to speak up. Silence will look like consent to the instructor. Help yourself and help him become a better teacher with a gentle suggestion.

Good luck.

I've done it! Made a very obvious grammar mistake, well obvious to everybody but me! A student pointed it out and well I thought WOW my students actually listen to me and look at my material - AWESOME
