Why does it have to be a problem? doesn't "diagnosis" just mean "finding out how things are" ?? From the Greek "gnosis", knowledge. Problems, like beauty, are sometimes in the eye of the beholder...

Diagnostic is the adjective while diagnosis is the noun. So you would do a Diagnostic Test but (in ESL) could also talk about it as being a Language Diagnosis. I tend to use the two terms...
