No. in is always used to express direction.


Some examples :


She had to move in some direction- any direction that would take her away from this evil place.
He looked in her direction but he didn't answer.
It was a step in the right direction, but...
They headed in that direction and...
They walked in a northerly direction until...
he was going in the direction of the park
