| | Re: Autumn / fall How about colours? The leaves on the trees think it's party time!
red, orange, brown, green, gold, amber, peach, tan, burgundy, cherry, yellow, olive, emerald, beige, crimson, scarlet (ok, the last one's exaggerating a bit but you get my drift?)
You could provide the trunk and branches of a tree and get the kids to cut out and colour the leaves to add to it.
In fact, I like that idea so much I'll do it with my groups too! |

| | Re: Autumn / fall Thanksgiving is a big holiday in Canada, oct 9th this year, and also in the US. It is in November there.
Giving thanks for all our blessings is the idea, it ties in with the harvest. When I taught in England we always had a harvest festival at school.
So cornucopias with fruits and vegetables spilling out are an art project often done with young children. Also turkeys are popular as Thanksgiving Dinner usually features a turkey.
YOu can make cute turkeys with the kids by drawing around a foot to make the body and then drawing aroung the hands to stick behind the body as the tail feathers. THen just cut out bits of paper to make the eyes and beak as well as legs.
Writing projects can have pattern sentences such as
I am thankful for ____________
I am thankful for ____________ because ___________.etc

| | Re: Autumn / fall A Fall rhyme
Do actions with your hands as the leaves flutter down to the ground.
Red leaves falling down
Yellow leaves falling down
Brown leaves falling down
Covering the ground.
The second verse could be for more advanced classes
Along came the wind and lifts them up high
Whirling and twirling way up in the sky
The wind blows away and the leaves settle down
Silently silently covering the ground.
I do this with young children as a music and movement activity but it can just as easily be presented at their desks.
Of course you can change the colours of the leaves that are falling.

| | Re: Autumn / fall Leave prints where you put paint on a leave and then press it onto paper is a great fall activity.
Leaf rubbings done by covering the leaf with paper and then gently rubbing over the top with a crayon is also an exciting activity that can prompt lots of language.
