Hello all. I have a quick question. I am currently curriculum development manager at a school in Korea and I would like to know. Do I own the copyright for any of the material that I create for the school? It is not in my contract that the school retains the copyright for anything created but does the copyright remain with me after anything is created?

If someone could help or provide some advice, that would be appreciated. I am willing to sell my copyright so that the school is able to re-use the material in how they see fit.

If you create something, you automatically have the copyright to that something. You can grant your school permission (kind of like a license) to re-use what you have produced or you could sell them the complete rights (you lose your copyright) to the materials.

That's my understanding of copyright. You should definitely take a look at this issue in more depth if you really want to protect your work.

Thank you Eric. I am trying to grant my school the permission to re-use my material (once I leave).

The current difficulties I am facing is this:

I created some preparation material for a BULATS Exam for Corporate Clients and I know it will be used in future work but I mentioned that I would allow the rights to be transferred to my school so that they can use it however they see fit. However, when they heard about it they got unhappy and told me that I paid to create curriculum and not sell material that I have made that has been requested.

Just seems they don't really understand Copyright Law.
