Thumbs up Local or World News?

Hello

What is best. News and Sports from your own country or News and Sports from UK and USA newspapers? Which would you prefer to read?

EDIT: Please keep site promotion in your signature.

Thanks

Jason

Hi,

Persoanlly I perfer to read RTE news (Ireland's number one broadcasting system) and also I can watch the news there with Real Player. For sports I mostly check Sky Sports 'cas I'm a big soccer fan.

In regards to students, I used to use Yahoo News and go to the Odd news. That's the one with interesting stories. I copy that and then edit it to suit my students level. I do it with the students then and they can learn new words and discuss the article afterwards. It's a bit of work, rather than buying a specific newspaper style book but it depends on your students' level.

BTW, isn't Jason Byrne a famous Irish comedian?

HI

Thanks for your opinions.

Yeah there is a famous Jason Byrne. I think he is fairly big in Ireland and the UK. I have never seen him.

I googled Jason Byrne once and was a bit depressed to find there are many of us. Growing up in the suburbs of London, Jason is a common name, but Byrne is a bit unusual. So I was always a little unique. You`d be amazed at how many English speakers can not pronounce BYRNE. BYron, Biren, Bernie, they can`t figure out what follows BY. But of course they should have had pronounced BYR not BY.

Anyway thanks to TV`s Jason Byrne that is all changing, uniqueness gone, although you are the first to mention it. He can`t be that big yet!

cheers

Jason
