| | Newbie to ESL Hey guys! I'm new to tutoring ESL and was wondering if anyone could give some ideas of what to do. My two students are Korean brothers, one is in 6th grade and the other in 4th. If anyone could give me some ideas of what to do in our hour-long sessions, please write back! Thanks! |

| | Re: Newbie to ESL Typically, Korean learners are good at grammar and written English, but poor at listening and speaking skills. If this is the case, they will probably benefit simply from having a conversation with you on a set topic each time.
Also, what is their goal in taking the study sessions? Do they need to pass a high school entrance test in English or something?
I notice your location is listed as India. Are their parents expats there? |

| | Re: Newbie to ESL i'm a esl teacher inchina. We use New interchange for junior students. They are asked to prepare daily topics in groups and pairs. Besides, they are ased to imitate the pronounciation of native speakers from the tape. It works |

How young do you use New Interchange?
Would you use it with elementary school students? |

| | Re: Newbie to ESL I'm a big believer in games and having fun while learning. The previous post about having conversation is great, as most ESL learners have the biggest difficulty with just plain old talking. They can read fine, write well enough, but actually speaking seems like pulling teeth sometimes. Have some game or incentive for them. If they're brothers, then they will definately strive on competition. Good luck! | |
