Default reading strategy

I have to demonstate for 20 minutes on how to teach reading strategies to beginner students. I will read out loud from a text book, but it is a childrens book so will need a lot more to keep going for the 20 minutes

Thank you for any advice you may give me

hi

you'd be surprised how fast 20 minutes can fly by. i use to have to teach reading to preschoolers for the same amount of time and sometimes it wasn't enough time.

first, how old are your students and what is their level and the book's level? how big is the book and by this i mean the physical size?

for younger kids (preschool/kindergarten) i would first elicit some of the more difficult vocab. using realia is great for young ones.

then read through the book once pointing to the pics in the book as you read the words that describe them. don't forget to really use tone and emphasis in your favor to express emotions and adjectives like ANGRY or tiny.

then flip through the book again and ask questions about each page. let the students come up and point to the green ball or the horse.

those ideas are for young learners.
