I think even after taking the 4weeks, 160hours etc of TEFL training the real training still takes place while you are teaching.

Are your students audible enough?

A simple trick has changed many of mine who could not speak to anyone's hearing at the beginning of last year. The truth is these same students are the ones you find screaming around at break time.

Re: Do you have problems teaching "possessives?" Check out this activity.

For sure your young learners and probably adults do confuse these words "I, my, me, mine, / you, your, yours, etc. Don't blame them so much. These words are truly confusing. Sometimes we even confuse...

Re: What level of English should a non-naive teacher have?

Wow!! This topic is doing great! Yeah most of the students have grown up with ideas from their parents about other countries of the world -usually very absurd ideas. One chinese student in Beijing...

Re: What level of English should a non-naive teacher have?

Thanks Sue for the insight. It's a broad topic. Your comment could pass for an introduction for a big book I imagine the title to be: Who Is An ESL Teacher? In fact, before bringing it up I knew how...

Re: When your students can't associate what they listen to and repeat with the written

Really it is Monica, and it's fun when they realize that they can listen to words, understand them, say them, match them with pictures but can't recognize the same words in isolation. From the...

When your students can't associate what they listen to and repeat with the written

Try the following:
Step 1. Pick a unit in their course book and let every one of them open to that unit.
