I'm not a student but a fellow teacher.
My students used to love the true stories or very easy true stories book series. I forget the author or publisher but you can just ask at the english book store and they will have it. They are short true stories about people or events in our world that students seem to be very interested in. Good for Grade 3 and older. There are also a series of questions and exercises students can complete after.
