Default Fun way to create dialogues

I found this idea on iteslj.org and it worked really well in my high school classes. It's very simple but caused lots of laughter.
Spend about 5-10 minutes getting the students to tell you their favourite songs. Aim for about 30-35 songs. (If need be get them to translate the title as best they can into English.)
I then split them into groups of 4 and asked them to create a dialogue/movie scene/dramatic play incorporating the song titles into their script. They then acted them out for the class.
Depending on the obscurity of the titles you could be in for some interesting dialogues.

That sounds like a great idea. It also demonstrates how making the language real, and letting our students personalize the vocab and grammar we teach them, increases their interest and retention. I'm sure the dialogues went over infinitely better than the usual ones that have been put together to practice a particular grammar point (and which our students so often read with hardly any gusto). I'll have to try this in one of my classes.

I'm curious, though. Did you do anything to check or correct for mistakes in the language?

While they were preparing the dialogues I was monitoring them and correcting any glaring errors, but it was mostly to do with their sentence construction and trying to get them to incorporate the song titles as seamlessly as possible.

I actually teach the students writing composition but they are so eager to practice conversation that when I can get them on a role I don't want to break it. I mentally store up what I see as universal errors for a later class.
