Default Reported Speech Activity

Hello everyone. I'm teaching in a Japanese JHS. This week I'm teaching reported speech. I have lots of worksheets to practice, but I don't have anything that is really interesting/fun. (I don't want to get into a debate about if class should be fun or have an activity or not )

If any of you have any activities to practice reported speech, please share. I did see a soccer game over at bogglesword, but I'm not sure how that would fly.

I thought of an idea I'm going to play charades. I will put the class into groups. And each group will get some cards with commands written on them like: Ride a horse. Play basketball. One student will take a card and read it to themselves. This student then using gestures tries to get the other students to guess what was written on the card. The other students guess by practicing:

The teacher told you to play basketball.

And the student that is doing the gesture and the student that guesses correctly get a point.

What do you think?

I taught the lesson today and it went over very well. And since it is Halloween today, instead of saying:

The teacher told you to play basketball.

I found a scary picture of a witch and told them that a witch had cast a spell on the student and it can't be broken without other students saying:

The witch told you to play basketball.

I taught this in small groups of adults, however I think it could work with JHS as well. I would have one student tell another to do something. For example, "open the door." A third student must say "Kelly told (asked) Carmen to open the door."

Actually, I have done something similar with JHS students here. In the end, they were telling other students to run to the basketball court, run up the stairs to the 4th floor, etc. They had a great time with it.
