adding moderators
not that I'd like to start policing any threads but if you made a few people moderators we might be able to move some of the misplaced job ads that end up in the announcements or the spam that makes it to the boards.

just a thought.

Re: adding moderators
I'd love to have some moderators! I catch most spam but not all and not that fast... If anyone is interested, let me know by posting here.

Re: adding moderators
I'll do it.

Like I said, I can't really police (go looking through the forums or every new post) but if I run across spam or misplaced posts, I can help you clean them up a bit.

Thanks, Mark!

Another option for those who are interested in helping but not interested in moderating is to click the icon for each post if it's spammy. I get notified immediately when those reports are filed and I can take appropriate action.

I'll set up the appropriate moderation permissions for you (and others) within the next week or so so you'll have a bit more control over the nefarious posts.

Re: adding moderators
I think this is a great idea.
Also, I don't know what you'll think, but are you open to adding another forum? We get a lot of threads or posts about teaching to young children, up to age 10. What if you started a forum for teaching ESL to this age group? And would you want to move existing threads to that new forum?

Re: adding moderators

I really appreciate you guys volunteering to help moderate the forums. As traffic increases, so does the spam and it's hard to keep up with it.

So, you've all been made moderators! :)

I'm new to adding moderators to forums so I want to proceed in baby steps. I want to make sure I have my permissions set up correctly so I don't lock you out of the forums or grant unrestricted admin permissions either....

So I've added you as moderators to the ESL Forums for now (including all sub-forums of ESL Forums). After we know this is working as it should be, then I will extend these permissions to the rest of the forums. But it's easier for me to test to make sure everyone has the correct permissions in this section instead of setting up all of the sections and having to go back and make changes to all of the permissions... and there are so many permissions to change!

So, on top of what you can already do, you should now be able to do the following in the ESL Forums category and all of its sub-categories:

- Delete Posts
- Moderate Posts
- Moderate Attachments
- Manage Threads
- Edit Threads

Basically, if it's spam, you'll be able to delete it. If it's questionable, you'll be able to moderate (ie. unpublish it) it until I can see it. If a thread is posted in the wrong forum, you'll be able to move it.

But don't worry about using the delete function... you can delete something and it will be removed from the forums but it will not be completely removed and I will be able to re-instate it if a mistake was made.

OK, let me know if you have any questions about this and I will do my best to answer them. But this is new for me as well and I will be learning as we go. :)

Thanks again & happy moderating!

Re: adding moderators
Eric - That sounds like enough power to me. I also like the idea of unpublishing and letting you have the final ax.

Let's see how it goes. With this many people (4) there might not be anything left to moderate :)

Re: adding moderators
Great - found the moderation box, and it looks as if it's all OK. Looking forward to finding some spam to have a go on. Or I could always attack a couple of Mark's I suppose, just for practice ... :)
