Hey all,
First of all, as a teacher, I know how hard it is to hear that I am doing something wrong- especially teaching. So, keeping this in mind, I am not going to go in-depth on this discussion, but just put ideas out there and if you like them, then great!
I would HIGHLY recommend reading anything from Maria Montessori on education or the development of children. It is extremely useful in the classroom and also in rethinking how we act as educators.
Also, even if you are not interested in her readings, I would suggest using Montessori materials in the classroom. The idea behind them is that the child is responsible for their own learning, thus giving them the confidence to continue!
I searched one day for materials for my own students and I came across these great sites to download free materials from!
MontessoriMom.com - Montessori Free Printouts & Downloads Montessori for Everyone - Free Downloads http://www.montessorimaterials.org/geo.htm Homeschool Resources: Montessori Links
They include beautiful pictures, and hopefully you will get the idea on how to use them- all you do is print, cut, laminate, cut and use (it does take time, but the students love them!).
Let me know if this post was at all helpful! I am studying to be certified in Montessori, so I don't know everything just yet..
