Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

Hello there
Applying for the job was a bit strange really. I sent an email with a brief CV to the Académie explaining that I was interested in the work. I had a letter back saying that they would be...

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

Despite the theory that English is now all being taught by class teachers it is not the reality here in Normandy or elsewhere in France as far as I know. There are still quite a lot of people...

Role play

I am currently working on simple role play with classes of 7-10 year olds. I have around 25-30 in a class. We have been working on conversations between shopkeepers and customers. "Good morning, can...

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

Re: Pills and Potions

On the other hand I don't see why "pills and injections" would be wrong. I think it is just a badly phrased question. "Pills and potions" is a widely used phrase in English, though.

Re: Take a train or catch a train?

I would catch a train or a bus, but take the underground. I can't tell you why!

Re: Any ideas in teaching writing?

Have you tried writing a class story together? That way you can help re-frame their ideas into sentences and model how a story gets put together. I would stick with story themes that are familiar to...

Re: Votes is votes

I would think it is just an attempt at humour - a bit like the expression "as sure as eggs is eggs".

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

I started with Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do You See? yesterday. They enjoyed the book, but next time I shall spend more time on the vocab before we try to read the book together. For assessment I...

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

No Pernickety - I haven't seen it, I will ask the school about it. I am starting tomorrow with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" and have found some useful pictures on line to make flash...

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

I don't use worksheets much either Kevin as the emphasis is very much on aural / oral, with only a very little bit of written language for the older children. We do lots of games, songs, and oral...

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

Thanks Kevin. I will indeed have a look at "Get, Set Go", but I don't think the local inspectors / advisers would be too keen on the exclusive use of a commercial scheme and as a teacher I have...

Re: Hire vs Rent

Yes I am British. You can certainly hire a person to do something - if you know your Thomas Hardy, then you will know that there were "hiring fairs" in the nineteenth century. This may be an example...

Re: Hire vs Rent

Hire a car and hire a motorbike both sound fine to me. You could even hire a deckchair and reasonably expect that it wouldn't have somebody already sitting in it!

Re: Teaching English in French primary schools

Hi there!
I guess we are lucky in Normandy, because our local advisers have taken the European objectives and broken then down into year by year activities and objectives. I also use the objectives...
