Re: Frustrated Teacher

I used to teach a class of Tibetan monks that were mostly first and second grade aged. They were absolutely crazy for the first few classes. I couldn't get them to be quite or pay attention. After...

Re: vocab ideas

I teach at 2 JHSs in Japan, and last week I just did a game that went over pretty well with my 3rd year students (U.S. 9th grade). I did the game with both my classes of about 20 students, and they...

Problems with preview

Hi,

I'm trying to make some mini-flashcards, but there seems to be a problem. I'm using the internet at one of my schools, so it's possible there is some kind of firewall problem, but I thought I'd...

Re: conversation help for teenagers

At least for the two first year classes, the kids probably don't have a lot of vocabulary to draw from. You'll need to introduce some vocabulary and simple grammar if you want to get them...

Re: Is non-biased ESL possible?

Besides the fact that it would make English easier to teach if everyone spoke it the same, I don't see any other reasons that would make a Universal English worthwhile. There are too many countries...

Re: Do you team teach?

I team teach in Japan, too. Luckily, all of my teachers are really cool and don't just use me as a tape recorder. The system has its pros and cons, but I've definitely learned a lot about teaching...

Re: How to help a student overcome his anxiety?

I think the role playing will be really helpful, especially if you push to get him out of his comfort zone (not in a mean way, of course). From what you said, he seems more relaxed when he's...

Christmas Games and Activities?

Hey everyone,

I've been asked to come up with some Christmas activities for some classes of 3rd year junior high school students (the equivalent of US freshmen, so they're 14/15 years old). I was...

I'm an ALT, so I don't go to every single English class. Originally, I thought that I'd be present for more of the phonics classes, but as it turned out, I was only there for a couple. Our English...

I team-teach in Japan, so my job is mainly to encourage my kiddies to get over their shyness and actually speak, and to make English fun so that they actually want to be in class. Most of my kids...
