Re: How long do you expect to stay in TESL?

Call me materialistic, but I'm tired of driving a 15-year old car, and I want to earn some decent $$. Plus I'm having a 'been there, done that' kind of feeling.

I'd like to go more into IT. As it...

Re: Diversity in English

That's the point I want to pick up on. Because of technology and other factors, such as ease of travel, there will come a time when we interact more with people outside of our (physical) community...

Re: Diversity in English

But I wonder if there are less variations than, say, 100 years ago? I dug this up after a quick google search:

Re: Scapegoats

Hey thanks Clive, that's interesting.

Also, it's interesting that they had the notion in those days of 'transferring sins' to others, which of course cropped up again in the New Testament!

Re: Diversity in English

That's the paradox that I'm interested in. An international English, but more variation at the local level. You'd wonder if over time, the International English would win out.

Interview them two at a time, and have one ask questions that a tourist may ask, while the other answers, then swap roles.

Re: Grammer question???

You can try my site: www.roadtogrammar.com, but there are no printables.

Adverb or not?

Hi all,

A visitor to my website has been arguing with me that 'fast' should not be used as an adverb, and that to do so is colloquial and incorrect.

As far as I can tell, this is not true.

Do you...

"You better not do that!"

(Using 'of' instead of 'have' and dropping the 'had' in 'had better')

Ouch! Your story brings back memories for me, too.

Re: Top Ten Errors

I can recognise almost all these errors in my own students. (Err... before I teach them, of course)
